12937

Case IH 12937 – MTA CCM (Cab Control Module) and/or APH (Armrest / Multi-function Handle Module): Checksum Error for parameter 18

Issue description

This is an internal memory (EEPROM) failure where the stored checksum for a specific calibration parameter (parameter 18) does not match the calculated checksum. This indicates that the non-volatile memory storing that specific parameter has become corrupted or failed internally.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Stage V MR (Mid-Range) tractors
  • Case IH Farmall series (40-45-50)
  • Maxxum series
  • Puma series

Check the cause

  1. Check for low battery voltage or voltage spikes, which are common culprits for corrupting EEPROM memory in control modules

  2. Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors at the CCM and APH modules (e.g., CCM-2 Connector X184)

  3. Use the EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) terminal to attempt a module recalibration to see if rewriting the data corrects a soft checksum error

Repair steps

  1. Reseat Connectors

Disconnect battery power. Locate the Cab Control Module (CCM) or Armrest Module (APH). Unplug and reseat the connectors to ensure the issue is not caused by a loose connection or poor pin contact.

  2. Clear and Recalibrate

Reconnect power, connect the EDT diagnostic terminal, clear the fault stack, and perform a full calibration of the transmission/armrest parameters.

  3. Module Diagnostics

If the 12937 checksum error returns immediately upon rebooting, the module's internal EEPROM is permanently corrupted.

  4. Repair or Replace

Remove the defective CCM or APH module. You can either send the module to a specialized agricultural electronics repair service for printed circuit board (PCB) diagnostics and EEPROM flashing, or replace it with a new/remanufactured OEM module.

  5. Final Calibration

If a new or repaired module is installed, it must be configured and calibrated to the specific tractor using the EDT terminal.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Cab Control Module (CCM)

    87014401

Replaces older revisions: 84814884, 86622304, 86643191, 87105721, 87747667. Requires specific programming based on the tractor's transmission type (e.g., CVT vs. Powershift).

  • APH Module (Armrest PDM PCB Based Standard)

    51607215

Used in Stage V Autocommand/CVT tractors.
