Case IH 12973 – CCM (Central Control Module / Chassis Control Module): EEPROM read failure

The control module's internal hardware checks the data blocks within its EEPROM and detects an error. It means the module is unable to correctly read its own programmed dataset or memory blocks.

   Check the wiring harness connecting to the CCM for continuity. Load test the wires and check for any shorts to ground back to the cab connections.

   Verify that the CCM is receiving proper voltage. Check the specific 'CCM Power and Ground Supplies' circuits.

   Attempt to re-flash or reprogram the module with a proper dataset to see if the EEPROM can be recovered.

   Verify fault code

   Verify the active 12973 fault code using a diagnostic tool.

   Inspect connectors

   Inspect the physical connectors on the CCM for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture intrusion that could cause data interruption.

   Test power and ground circuits

   Test the power and ground circuits to ensure the module is not failing to read memory due to low voltage.

   Re-flash CCM

   Attempt to re-flash the CCM with the latest OEM software dataset.

   Replace CCM

   If the flash fails or the defect persists immediately after reprogramming, the EEPROM has suffered an unrecoverable internal hardware defect. The CCM must be replaced.
