Case IH 12974 – MTA CCM & APH STAGE V MR: EEPROM write failure

Hardware or software-level fault where the control module's internal EEPROM is unable to successfully write, save, or overwrite data. This can happen during standard operation, configuration changes, or calibration procedures.

   Check the power supply and ground circuits to the CCM for voltage drops or power interruptions

   Attempt to clear the fault code using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and perform a basic calibration to force the module to write data

   Attempt to save any snapshot information, variant configurations, or implement data before the module completely fails

   Reprogram the Module

   Connect the CNH EST diagnostic tool and attempt to re-flash/reprogram the CCM with the latest software calibration.

   Verify Repair

   After flashing, cycle the key and check if fault code 12974 returns. If the module accepts the flash and operates normally, the issue was a software corruption.

   Replace the Module

   If the error remains present after reprogramming, or if the module refuses to accept the flash, the EEPROM chip is physically defective. You must replace the ECU/CCM.

   Configuration

   Install the new module, flash it with the correct vehicle dataset/software variant, and perform all mandatory end-of-line calibrations (transmission, steering, hydraulics).
