130

Case IH 130 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller or AUX (Auxiliary Remote) Controller: Aux 2nd Raise solenoid failed open or short circuit.

Issue description

The controller has commanded the #2 auxiliary remote valve driver to turn on (to extend/raise the implement), but no electrical current is being sensed. This points to an open circuit (broken wire or burned-out coil) or a short circuit to ground in the solenoid or its wiring harness.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • MX Magnum Series
  • TG Series
  • Steiger / STX Series
  • Puma Series
  • Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #2 remote valve block at the rear of the tractor for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the plug at the #2 'Raise/Extend' solenoid and check for water intrusion, corrosion, pushed-back pins, or loose connections.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the #2 Raise solenoid coil. An infinite reading (OL) indicates an open internal coil, while near zero ohms to the chassis indicates a short to ground.

  4. Back-probe the harness connector with the tractor running and the #2 remote lever/switch commanded to the 'Raise' position to verify the controller is sending the appropriate voltage to the solenoid.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify the #2 auxiliary remote valve slice in the rear hydraulic valve stack. Identify the specific solenoid responsible for the "Raise/Extend" function (usually the upper or forward solenoid, depending on the valve block orientation).

  3. Remove the Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil to the proportional valve cartridge.

  4. Inspect the Cartridge

Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem. Inspect the valve stem for physical damage, leaks, or bending. (If the cartridge itself is damaged, the entire proportional valve may need replacement).

  5. Install the New Part

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut (do not over-tighten, as this can distort the cartridge).

  6. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor, clear the stored fault codes from the TMF/AUX module, and cycle the #2 remote valve to verify proper operation and ensure the code does not return.
