Case IH 130 – TRANS (Transmission Controller): Low range clutch is not calibrated.
Issue description
The transmission control module has lost the stored calibration values (fill time and engagement pressure parameters) for the low range clutch pack, or a previous calibration procedure was interrupted or failed. Without these parameters, the transmission cannot smoothly or safely engage the low range gear.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- MX Magnum Series
- TG Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Farmall Series
Check the cause
Check that the transmission oil is warmed up above 10°C (50°F) to prevent calibration abort code U19
Ensure the engine RPM is steady and set to the exact calibration speed specified for your model (usually around 1200 RPM) to prevent abort codes U21 or U22
Verify that the shuttle lever is strictly in Neutral (prevents code U23) and that your foot is completely off the clutch/inching pedal (prevents code U26)
Verify there are no active electrical fault codes for the low range clutch solenoid (such as code 109) which would make calibration impossible
Repair steps
Start the tractor and operate it until the transmission fluid reaches normal operating temperature.
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface and engage the parking brake.
Shift the shuttle lever into Neutral and release the clutch pedal completely.
Access the Transmission Calibration menu.
Depending on the model, this is done either through the tractor's instrument cluster H-Menu (using the display navigation buttons) or by connecting the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop.
Select the calibration routine for the transmission clutches.
Increase the engine throttle to the prompted calibration RPM.
Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate the sequence.
The TRANS controller will automatically pulse the low range clutch solenoid to measure fill times and engagement pressures.
Save the configuration and cycle the ignition key to lock the values into the module's memory.
Do this once the screen indicates the low range clutch (and subsequent mid/high/reverse clutches) is successfully calibrated.
