Case IH 13007 – Universal Controller Module (UCM) / XCM: Reference voltage 8V5REF – voltage too low.

The 8.5-volt reference circuit (8V5REF) has dropped below its minimum acceptable threshold. This usually indicates a short to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short within one of the sensors on that circuit, most notably the Load Sensing Pins (draft pins) used for the 3-point hitch electronic draft control (EDC).

   Identify the 8.5V reference circuit components, specifically the Left and Right Load Sensing Pins for the Electronic Draft Control (EDC).

   Perform a Sensor Isolation Test: Turn the key ON, disconnect the sensors on the 8.5V circuit one at a time (starting with rear hitch load sensing pins), and monitor the reference voltage. If voltage returns to ~8.5V, the unplugged sensor has an internal short.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the UCM/XCM and the sensors for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or melted insulation causing a short to ground.

   Perform a Controller Check: Disconnect the harness directly at the UCM/XCM and test the 8V5REF pin output directly on the module. If output is significantly less than 8.5V with nothing connected, the controller has an internal regulator failure.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground if you are repairing wiring or replacing the UCM.

   Repair/Replace the Short

   If a sensor is faulty: Remove the retaining hardware for the shorted load sensing pin on the 3-point hitch linkage. Install the new pin and route the pigtail safely away from pinch points. If the harness is faulty: Locate the short to ground. Splice and solder the damaged wires, sealing them with dual-wall heat shrink, or replace the affected harness section. If the UCM is faulty: Replace the Universal Controller Module (Note: A new UCM will require dealer programming/flashing).

   Re-test

   Reconnect all components, turn the key ON, and verify that the 8.5V reference voltage is stable.

   Calibrate

   Clear the stored fault codes. Perform the Hydraulic Lift Calibration procedure to ensure the UCM learns the baseline values of the new load sensing pins.
