Case IH 13021 - UCM – UCM: Supply voltage 12VS2 - voltage too low
Issue description
The Universal Control Module (UCM) is detecting that the 12-volt power supply on the specific "12VS2" rail has dropped below the minimum operational limit.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Puma Series (140, 150, 165, 175, 180, 210, 260 CVX)
- Case IH Magnum Series (180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
- Case IH Steiger Series
- Case IH Farmlift Telehandlers
Check the cause
Check the tractor's main battery voltage and alternator output to ensure the machine isn't suffering from a global low-voltage condition
Check the fuse panel for blown fuses, as a low 12VS2 voltage supply is highly indicative of a possible blown fuse
Check the components powered by the 12VS2 rail (such as the backup alarm circuit) for short circuits to ground
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the UCM for the 12VS2 input pin for corrosion, loose connections, or chafing
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Ensure the machine is fully powered down before beginning electrical diagnostics.
Locate the fuse panel and inspect the fuse designated for the UCM 12VS2 power supply.
Check if the fuse is blown.
If the fuse is blown, do not immediately replace it. Inspect the wiring and components powered by the 12VS2 rail for a short to ground.
Disconnect the components on this rail, replace the fuse, and reconnect them one by one to isolate the short.
If the fuse is intact, use a digital multimeter to measure the voltage at the UCM connector for the 12VS2 pin with the key turned to the ON position.
It should read close to battery voltage (approx. 12V).
If the voltage is low at the UCM but good at the fuse block, trace the wiring harness between the fuse panel and the UCM.
Locate and repair any open circuits, chafed wires, or high-resistance connections.
Repair the damaged wiring or replace the shorted component.
Address the root cause of the voltage drop or blown fuse.
Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the in-cab display monitor, and test the machine.
Verify the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(5)Fuses
Generic ATO/ATC or Mini fuses (amperage depends on the specific machine's fuse box rating for the 12VS2 circuit).
Wiring Repair
Generic harness repair pigtails or pins.
