Case IH 13051 – INST or INST2: Invalid Configuration - Air to Air Intake Temperature sensor voltage is too low (short to ground)

The voltage signal returning from the air-to-air intake temperature sensor is out of range on the low side, indicating a likely short circuit to ground in the sensor or its wiring circuit.

   Test the resistance of the air-to-air intake temperature sensor using a multimeter to check for internal failure

   Inspect the wiring harness from the instrumentation controller to the sensor for a short to ground (e.g., rubbed insulation, pinched wires, or corrosion)

   Test the Instrumentation Controller if the sensor and wiring harness both test within specification

   Locate sensor

   Locate the air-to-air intake temperature sensor on the engine's intake piping/manifold.

   Test and replace sensor

   Disconnect the sensor connector and use a digital multimeter to measure the sensor's internal resistance. Compare the reading to the OEM specification for your specific engine model. If the sensor is dead or out of range, replace it.

   Disconnect controller

   If the sensor is good, leave it disconnected and disconnect the corresponding pin connector at the Instrumentation Controller (INST).

   Check wiring continuity

   Check the continuity of the signal wire to ground. If there is continuity to ground, locate the short in the wiring harness and repair the damaged wire.

   Clear codes and test controller

   Clear the fault codes. If the code returns immediately and both the sensor and wiring are verified good, the Instrumentation Controller will need to be replaced or reprogrammed by a dealer.
