Case IH 13052 – INST (Instrumentation Controller): Air to Air Intake Temperature sensor voltage is too high (open circuit, short to +V)
Issue description
This code indicates that the signal voltage from the air-to-air intake temperature sensor is out of range on the high side. The system is detecting either a complete break in the circuit (open circuit) or a wire that has rubbed through and is receiving unintended voltage (short to power).
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- Case IH MX Magnum Series (P.I.N. Z6RZ01001 and above)
- Case IH TG Series (P.I.N. Z6RW01001 and above)
- Case IH Steiger Series
- Case IH Maxxum
- Case IH Puma
Check the cause
Visually inspect the air-to-air intake temperature sensor and its connector for physical damage, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Perform a sensor resistance test by unplugging the sensor and checking internal resistance with a multimeter (infinite resistance/OL indicates internal failure).
Test the wiring harness from the sensor connector to the Instrumentation Controller for continuity (to rule out an open circuit) and voltage on the signal wire (to rule out a short to power).
Check the Instrumentation Controller if the sensor and wiring harness both test perfectly.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Locate the Sensor
Find the air-to-air intake temperature sensor, typically located on the intake manifold or the charge-air cooler piping.
Replace the Sensor (if faulty)
If the sensor failed the resistance test, unthread the old sensor, clean the mating port, and install the new sensor. Reconnect the wiring harness.
Repair the Harness (if faulty)
If the wiring harness showed an open circuit or a short to power, trace the harness back to the INST controller. Locate the chafed, broken, or melted section of the wire. Splice and heat-shrink the damaged wire, or replace the affected harness section.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu) to clear the inactive 13052 fault code.
Test Run
Start the engine and verify that the fault code does not return and that the intake temperature readings on the dash/diagnostic tool are within normal operating parameters.
