Case IH 131 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller or AUX (Auxiliary Remote) Controller: Aux 3rd Lower Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts.

The controller is detecting current on the Auxiliary #3 remote valve lower (retract) driver circuit when the driver is commanded OFF. This indicates that the circuit is improperly receiving voltage, meaning the wiring or the solenoid itself is shorted directly to a 12-volt power source.

   Isolate the short by disconnecting the electrical connector at the 3rd auxiliary remote valve lower/retract solenoid and turning the key ON. If the code changes to 132, the short is internal to the solenoid coil; if 131 remains, the short is in the wiring harness.

   Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the Aux 3 lower solenoid signal wire and any known 12V constant or switched power wires in the same harness bundle.

   Inspect the TMF/AUX controller harness connectors and the valve connectors for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging a 12V pin to the solenoid signal pin.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and engage the battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the remote hydraulic control valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify the 3rd remote valve section and its lower (retract) solenoid.

   Inspect and Repair Wiring

   If harness is at fault: Trace the harness from the 3rd remote valve back to the cab/controller. Look for pinch points, chafed insulation, or melted wires—especially where the harness routes near the cab mounts or transmission housing. Splice and repair any wires where the copper is exposed and touching a 12V source. Seal the repair with marine-grade heat shrink.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If coil is at fault: Clean the area around the 3rd remote valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Remove the retaining nut/hardware holding the faulty solenoid coil to the valve cartridge. Slide the old coil off the cartridge stem and install the new OEM coil. (Note: On some specific MX Magnum valve blocks, the entire valve section or cartridge may need to be replaced if the coil is not serviced separately).

   Reassembly and Testing

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn on the battery disconnect and start the tractor. Clear the stored fault codes from the TMF/AUX controller. Cycle the 3rd remote valve using the cab controls to verify proper operation and ensure the code does not return.
