Case IH 132 – ENG (Engine Controller / ECM): Decelerator or Hand Throttle (STD cab) Position potentiometer voltage is too low.

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the hand throttle or decelerator pedal potentiometer that has fallen below the minimum acceptable threshold (usually near 0 volts). This condition is typically caused by a short to ground in the signal wire, an open circuit in the 5V reference supply wire or the signal wire, or a complete internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the hand throttle/decelerator potentiometer and the Engine Controller for chafed wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Disconnect the harness from the potentiometer, turn the key ON (engine off), and measure the reference wire from the ECM. It should read approximately 5.0 Volts. A 0V reading indicates an open circuit in the harness or a failed ECM 5V driver.

   Check the signal wire for continuity back to the ECM pin and test the signal wire for a short to ground.

   If wiring is good, test the potentiometer by measuring the resistance across the sensor pins while slowly moving the hand throttle or decelerator pedal. The resistance should change smoothly; if it drops out to an open state or reads zero, the potentiometer is internally faulty.

   Power Down

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the necessary right-hand console trim panels (for the hand throttle) or lower dash panels (for the decelerator pedal) to expose the throttle bracket assembly.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the throttle potentiometer.

   Remove the Potentiometer

   Remove the mounting hardware (typically M4 hex socket head screws or lock nuts) securing the potentiometer to the throttle friction device/bracket.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the new potentiometer, ensuring the internal drive tang aligns correctly with the slot on the throttle lever mechanism.

   Secure and Reconnect

   Reinstall the M4 mounting screws and tighten them. Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the console or dash trim panels and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Turn the key ON. You must perform a throttle calibration procedure using the tractor's instrument cluster display or a diagnostic service tool. This allows the Engine Controller to learn the new minimum (idle) and maximum (wide-open throttle) voltage values of the new potentiometer. Clear the inactive fault code 132.
