Case IH 133 – Engine Controller (ENG): Decelerator (STD cab) Position potentiometer voltage is too high.
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) is receiving a voltage signal from the decelerator pedal's position potentiometer that exceeds the normal operating range (typically above 4.5V to 4.75V). This condition is usually caused by a short to a high-voltage source in the signal wire, an open ground circuit to the sensor, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the decelerator pedal for physical damage, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Check the 5V reference supply and the ground circuit at the sensor connector. An open ground wire is a highly common cause for a sensor's signal voltage to pull 'too high'.
Check the signal wire for a short to battery voltage.
Disconnect the sensor and measure the resistance across its pins using a multimeter. Slowly depress the decelerator pedal. The resistance should increase and decrease smoothly without any dropouts, dead spots, or infinite resistance spikes.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Sensor
Locate the decelerator pedal assembly in the cab. Depending on the model, you may need to remove the lower steering column covers or floor plates to access the sensor linkage.
Remove the Potentiometer
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the potentiometer. Remove the retaining hardware (usually M4 or M6 lock nuts/screws) securing the potentiometer to the pedal assembly.
Install the New Part
Mount the new potentiometer, ensuring the mechanical linkage or D-shaft aligns correctly with the sensor so it sweeps its full range without binding. Secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor and reconnect the battery.
Calibration
Turn the key on and clear the inactive fault codes. Depending on the specific tractor model, you may need to perform a pedal calibration procedure via the cab display (Pro 700/1200) or a dealer service tool so the Engine Controller can learn the new minimum and maximum voltage values of the replacement sensor.
