Case IH 133 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) or AUX (Auxiliary Remote Controller): Aux 3rd Raise Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts

The control module is sensing electrical current on the circuit for the 3rd auxiliary remote valve's raise (extend) solenoid even when the driver circuit is commanded off, indicating a short circuit to a 12-volt power source within the wiring harness or the solenoid coil itself.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the 3rd auxiliary remote valve raise/extend solenoid for chafing, melting, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the 3rd raise solenoid and inspect pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

   Perform a harness voltage test: With solenoid disconnected and key ON (remote OFF), measure voltage at the harness connector. 12V indicates a harness short.

   Perform a coil resistance test: Measure resistance across the disconnected solenoid coil pins and compare to a known good coil. A dead short or significantly lower reading indicates an internal coil failure.

   Disconnect battery

   If the diagnostic tests point to a wiring harness short: Disconnect the tractor's battery.

   Trace wiring harness

   Trace the wiring harness from the 3rd auxiliary valve back toward the TMF/AUX controller, paying close attention to areas where the harness routes near moving parts, sharp frame edges, or heat sources.

   Repair or replace harness

   Once the shorted section is located, cut out the damaged wire and splice in a new section using weather-sealed (heat-shrink) butt connectors, or replace that section of the harness entirely.

   Secure harness

   Secure the harness with zip ties to prevent future chafing.

   Disconnect battery

   If the diagnostic tests point to a shorted solenoid coil: Disconnect the tractor's battery.

   Disconnect electrical connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty 3rd raise solenoid.

   Remove retaining nut

   Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.

   Remove old coil

   Slide the old, shorted coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the valve cartridge to replace the coil, so no fluid should be lost).

   Install new coil

   Slide the new OEM replacement coil onto the stem.

    Reinstall retaining nut

    Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as this can distort the cartridge).

    Reconnect electrical connector

    Reconnect the electrical connector.

    Verify operation

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, clear the stored fault codes, and cycle the 3rd auxiliary remote to verify proper operation.
