Case IH 134 – Engine Controller (ENG): Decelerator (STD cab) Position potentiometer voltage is too low.

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the decelerator (foot throttle) position potentiometer that has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to ground in the signal wire, an open circuit in the 5-volt sensor supply wire, a disconnected harness, or an internally failed potentiometer.

   Inspect the decelerator/foot throttle pedal assembly in the cab for physical damage, binding, or debris preventing full travel.

   Inspect the electronic throttle harness connecting the decelerator potentiometer to the Engine ECU. Look for chafed wires, pinched lines, or loose/corroded connector pins.

   Disconnect the potentiometer and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving a steady 5-volt reference supply from the Engine ECU (key ON, engine OFF).

   Test the signal wire between the potentiometer connector and the ECU for continuity, ensuring there is no short to ground or open circuit.

   If the wiring is intact, back-probe the signal wire and slowly depress the decelerator pedal. The voltage should change smoothly. If the voltage stays bottomed out or drops out erratically, the potentiometer is faulty.

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the decelerator (foot throttle) assembly inside the cab.

   Disconnect the electronic throttle harness connector from the throttle control potentiometer.

   Remove the mounting hardware (typically M4 screws and lock nuts) securing the potentiometer to the throttle bracket.

   Remove the faulty potentiometer.

   Install the new potentiometer onto the bracket and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electronic throttle harness.

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and clear the stored fault codes.

   Test the decelerator pedal operation to ensure the engine speed responds correctly and Fault Code 134 does not return.
