Case IH 134 – TRANS: Master clutch is not calibrated
Issue description
The transmission controller has lost the calibration values for the master clutch engagement point (fill time and current), or a new controller/component has been installed and has not yet been taught the clutch engagement parameters.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MX Magnum
- MX Magnum Series
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- TG Series
Check the cause
Verify transmission fluid temperature is between 60°C and 105°C (140°F - 221°F), as calibration will fail if oil is too cold or hot.
Check the master clutch solenoid and wiring harness for open or short circuits (located on the left side of the tractor, rear of cab steps).
Ensure the clutch pedal potentiometer is functioning correctly and sending the proper voltage (~8 volts) to the controller.
Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat surface with the parking brake engaged and the area clear of bystanders before attempting calibration.
Repair steps
Park the vehicle
Park the vehicle in an open area, free of obstacles.
Check transmission oil temperature
Ensure the transmission oil temperature is within the 60°C - 105°C range.
Access CONFIG MENU
Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to access the CONFIG MENU.
Select TCU
Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU and press Enter.
Select ETC MENU
Arrow down to the ETC MENU and press Enter.
Select TRANS SETUP
Arrow down to TRANS SETUP and press Enter.
Select Cltch Cal
Select Cltch Cal (clutch calibration) and press Enter.
Verify Oil Deg
The Oil Deg screen will display the current transmission fluid temperature. If it is within range, press Enter to continue.
Calibrate clutches
Follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the clutches. The system will cycle through the clutches, and the master clutch is the final clutch in the series.
Complete calibration
When the *Mstr mA screen displays, the master clutch calibration is complete. Press the Enter key to exit clutch calibration and return to the TRANS SETUP menus.
Shift to Park
Depending on the position of the transmission control, a 'Shift to Park' instruction screen may display. Put the transmission in Park if required.
Parts you might need
(3)Master Clutch Solenoid
51523989Fits Case IH / New Holland. When replacing, do not over-torque the parts. Torque the cartridge to approximately 18 ft-lbs and the solenoid retaining nut to 5-6 ft-lbs.
Clutch Potentiometer / Linkage
87567150Clutch Potentiometer Link. The potentiometer itself is a generic lift/clutch potentiometer used across CNH platforms.
Transmission Fluid
Case IH Akcela Hy-Tran or Nexplore fluid (required to maintain proper clutch friction coefficients during calibration).
