Case IH 1350 – UCM (Universal Control Module) / IC (Instrument Cluster): Hydraulic Enable Switch - Implausible State (Hardware Vs CAN)
Issue description
This code indicates a communication mismatch between the physical hardware state of the hydraulic enable switch and the state being broadcast over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Because the system cannot verify whether the operator has actually commanded the hydraulics to be enabled, it triggers an amber warning light, disables the hydraulic functions, and often prevents the machine from starting as a safety precaution.
Applies to these machines
16 machines- skid steer
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- TR270
- TR320
- TV380
- SR130
- SR150
- SR175
- SR200
- SR220
- SR250
- SV185
- SV250
- SV300

Check the cause
Check all fuses and relays located in the cab fuse boards for blown fuses or bad relays that could disrupt power to the instrument cluster or UCM.
Tilt the cab to access the UCM. Disconnect, inspect, and clean all wiring harness connections to the UCM and the instrument cluster to rule out corrosion or loose pins.
Inspect the wiring harness between the dash cluster and the UCM for any visible damage, chafing, or shorts.
Evaluate the dash cluster (where the hydraulic enable switch is located). Check if other gauges are blank or if the cab HVAC electronics have failed, which indicates an internal cluster failure.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before servicing electrical components.
Verify Wiring
Use a multimeter to verify power, ground, and CAN continuity between the instrument cluster and the UCM.
Replace the Instrument Cluster
If the wiring is intact but the cluster gauges are blank or the CAN signal from the switch remains implausible, the internal circuitry of the dash cluster has likely failed. Remove the mounting screws for the dash cluster, disconnect the wiring harness, and install the new instrument cluster.
Reprogramming
If the Instrument Cluster or UCM is replaced, you must use the electronic service tool to restore self-learning parameters and ensure the new module is configured to communicate properly with the machine's CAN network.
Test Operation
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and verify that the amber warning light is off. Press the hydraulic enable switch and confirm that the LED illuminates and hydraulic functions are restored.
