Case IH 136 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) or AUX (Auxiliary Valve): Aux 4th Lower solenoid failed open or short circuit

The control module has detected an electrical fault in the circuit responsible for the 'lower' function of the 4th auxiliary remote hydraulic valve, indicating either an open circuit (such as a broken wire, disconnected plug, or burnt-out solenoid coil) or a short circuit (wiring shorted to ground/power, or an internally shorted coil).

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the 4th auxiliary remote valve (rear hydraulic stack) for damaged wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Perform a coil resistance test on the 4th 'Lower' solenoid using a multimeter. An infinite/OL reading confirms an open coil; a near-zero reading confirms an internally shorted coil.

   Compare the resistance reading of the faulty coil to the adjacent 4th 'Raise' solenoid to determine the baseline resistance.

   If the coil tests good, perform a harness continuity test between the solenoid connector and the TMF/AUX controller to rule out a broken wire or a short to the tractor chassis.

   Relieve hydraulic pressure

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the remote valves.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate valve stack

   Locate the auxiliary remote valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify the 4th remote valve section.

   Unplug connector

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty 4th 'Lower' solenoid.

   Remove retaining nut

   Remove the retaining nut or fastener that secures the solenoid coil to the hydraulic proportional valve stem.

   Remove faulty coil

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.

   Install new coil

   Clean the valve stem of any dirt or debris. Slide the new replacement solenoid coil onto the stem.

   Secure coil

   Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut to secure the coil.

   Reconnect connector

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.

    Verify operation

    Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, clear the stored TMF 136 fault code, and actuate the 4th remote valve to verify the 'lower' function operates correctly.
