Case IH 136 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Communication lost with the instrumentation controller.

The CAN Bus communication link between the transmission controller and the instrumentation controller has been interrupted or lost.

   Verify both the transmission controller and the instrumentation controller are powering up and functioning normally

   Inspect the Data Bus (CAN Bus) connections between the transmission controller and the instrumentation controller for loose pins, corrosion, or damaged wires

3. 3

   Verify that the tractor model configuration is correct in the instrumentation controller (check that the 'ST MODEL' parameter is set to the correct model number)

   Ensure both controllers have the correct and most up-to-date software installed

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during testing.

   Inspect Harness Connections

   Locate the transmission controller and the instrumentation cluster/controller. Disconnect the wiring harnesses at both ends.

   Test CAN Bus Integrity

   Using a multimeter, check for continuity on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the transmission controller and the instrumentation controller. Check for shorts to ground or shorts to power.

   Repair Wiring

   If a break, short, or high resistance is found in the data bus wiring, repair or replace the affected section of the transmission/cab wire harness.

   Reconnect and Test

   Reconnect all harnesses, restore battery power, and turn the key on. Clear the fault code using the programmable display (depress the 'Reset' button) or a diagnostic service tool.

   Replace Faulty Module

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly but the TRANS 136 code immediately returns (and one of the controllers is unresponsive), the internal CAN transceiver in either the Transmission Controller or the Instrumentation Controller has failed. Replace the faulty controller and flash/calibrate it to the tractor using the OEM service tool.
