Case IH 137 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function Controller) or AUX (Auxiliary Valve Controller): Aux 4th Raise Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts.
Issue description
The controller has detected that the electrical circuit supplying the 'Raise' solenoid coil on the 4th auxiliary remote hydraulic valve is receiving unexpected 12-volt power, indicating a short to a power source either in the wiring harness or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Magnum
- Case IH Magnum Series (MX Magnum, Magnum 225, 250, 280, 310)
- Case IH Steiger Series (STX models)
- Case IH Puma Series
- TG Series Tractors
Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the TMF/AUX controller to the 4th rear remote valve for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points that could short to a 12V power wire.
Disconnect the electrical plug at the 4th remote 'Raise' solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge power circuits.
Isolate the short by disconnecting the solenoid, turning the key on, and checking active fault codes. If the code changes to 138, the short is internal to the solenoid coil. If code 137 remains, the short is in the wiring harness.
Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter across the pins of the 4th Raise solenoid coil. Compare to a known good coil; a reading near 0 Ohms indicates a dead short inside the coil.
Repair steps
Trace harness
If the wiring harness is shorted: Trace the harness back from the 4th remote valve to the TMF controller.
Locate damage
Locate the damaged section of the wire.
Repair wire
Cut out the damaged section, splice in a new wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors, and re-loom the harness.
Prepare tractor
If the Solenoid Coil / Actuator is internally shorted: Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure. Disconnect the battery.
Clean valve block
Thoroughly clean the exterior of the 4th auxiliary remote valve block at the rear of the tractor to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect solenoid
Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty 4th Raise solenoid.
Remove retaining nut
Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem.
Remove faulty coil
Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: On some newer EDC/proportional valve blocks, the entire actuator head may need to be unbolted rather than just a slip-on coil).
Install new coil
Slide the new OEM replacement coil onto the valve stem and torque the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specification (do not overtighten, or you may distort the valve spool).
Reconnect harness
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear codes
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the stored TMF fault codes.
Verify function
Actuate the 4th remote valve from the cab to verify proper 'Raise' function and ensure the code does not return.
