Case IH 139 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Aux remote valve TIMER potentiometer is failed.

The control module is receiving an out-of-range signal (either too high, too low, or an open/short circuit) from the potentiometer that controls the timer function for the auxiliary remote hydraulic valves.

   Inspect the auxiliary remote valve timer knob on the right-hand armrest console for physical damage or binding.

   Access the underside of the armrest console and inspect the wiring harness and connector at the potentiometer for loose pins, corrosion, or broken wires.

   Using a multimeter, verify that the potentiometer is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage and ground from the Armrest Controller.

   Back-probe the signal wire and perform a signal sweep test by slowly turning the timer knob. The voltage should change smoothly without dropping out or spiking. If erratic or stuck, the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Check for continuity on the signal wire between the potentiometer connector and the Armrest Controller to rule out a broken wire in the armrest harness.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Armrest Console

   Remove the retaining screws securing the top cover/panel of the right-hand armrest console.

   Remove the Panel

   Carefully lift the console panel to expose the switches and potentiometers underneath. Do not pull too hard, as the wiring harnesses will still be attached.

   Remove the Knob

   Pull the plastic control knob straight up and off the shaft of the failed timer potentiometer.

   Disconnect the Potentiometer

   Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the failed potentiometer.

   Remove the Hardware

   Use a wrench to remove the retaining nut (typically a 3/8-32 nut) securing the potentiometer to the console plate. Pull the potentiometer down and out of the panel.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the new potentiometer through the mounting hole, aligning any anti-rotation tabs. Secure it with the retaining nut.

   Reassemble

   Push the control knob back onto the potentiometer shaft. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Close the Console

   Carefully lower the armrest panel back into place, ensuring no wires are pinched, and reinstall the retaining screws.

    Test

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the stored fault codes. Test the auxiliary remote timer function to ensure the code does not return.
