139

Case IH 139 – TMF / AUX: Aux 5th Lower Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts.

Issue description

The control module has detected a short circuit to a 12-volt power source on the circuit controlling the 'lower' (retract/down) coil of the 5th auxiliary (remote) hydraulic valve solenoid.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series
  • MX180
  • MX200
  • MX220
  • MX240
  • MX270
  • MX285
  • Case IH TG Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Puma 125

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the 5th rear remote hydraulic valve for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted loom that could cause a short to a 12V power wire.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the 5th remote valve's lower coil, turn the key to ON (engine off), and use a multimeter to check for 12 volts on the control wire. If 12V is present without commanding the valve, the harness is shorted to power.

  3. If the harness tests fine, check the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the 5th lower coil itself. An extremely low or zero reading indicates the solenoid coil has failed and is internally shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Valve Stack

Locate the rear remote hydraulic valve stack at the back of the tractor. Identify the 5th remote valve section.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic tests revealed a harness short, splice and repair the damaged section of the wiring using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors.

  4. Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)

Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty 5th lower coil. Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge. Slide the old coil off the cartridge stem. Install the new solenoid coil, secure the retaining hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.

  5. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor, clear the inactive fault codes from the TMF/AUX module, and cycle the 5th remote valve using the cab controls to verify the code does not return and the hydraulics operate correctly.
