Case IH 14002 – ICU (Instrument Cluster Unit): Transmission oil filter switch closed to ground on power up

This code indicates that the transmission oil filter restriction switch (sensor) is reading a closed circuit to ground immediately when the machine's electrical system is powered on. Because the system is just powering up and oil is not yet flowing under pressure, the switch should normally be open. A closed state indicates either a failed (stuck closed) switch or a short-to-ground in the wiring harness.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission oil filter switch for chafing, melted insulation, or pinch points that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the sensor and check the connectors for damage, moisture, corrosion, correct pin position, and a tight fit.

   Perform circuit isolation: With the switch disconnected, power up the machine. If the fault code changes to an 'open circuit' code or goes away, the switch has failed internally (stuck closed).

   Perform continuity test: If the code remains active with the switch unplugged, use a multimeter to test the signal wire for continuity to ground. Continuity indicates a short in the wiring harness that must be traced and repaired.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and allow the transmission oil to cool.

   Locate the Switch

   Find the transmission oil filter switch, typically threaded into the transmission oil filter housing or manifold.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Place a small catch pan underneath to catch any residual hydraulic/transmission oil. Use a wrench to unthread the faulty switch from the housing.

   Install the New Switch

   Thread the new OEM transmission oil filter switch into the housing. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as these are often brass or hollow-body sensors).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new switch. Ensure the locking tab clicks into place.

   Clear and Verify

   Turn the machine's power on. Verify that fault code 14002 is no longer active. Start the engine and check the switch for any oil leaks.
