Case IH 14005 – ICU (Instrumentation Control Unit): PTO shaft speed data is ERROR or NOT AVAILABLE state from PTO.

The control module is not receiving a valid speed signal from the Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft speed sensor, which prevents the system from monitoring or engaging the PTO correctly.

   Locate the PTO shaft speed sensor at the top rear of the transmission, just ahead of the PTO shaft.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO shaft speed sensor (Connector No. 145) and the PTO dual speed/shaft size sensor (Connector No. 146) for chafed wires, corrosion, or disconnected plugs.

   Check continuity from the ICU controller pins to the sensor connector (e.g., Pin 10 of connector C056 to Pin A of connector C145) and from the sensor connector ground pin to the chassis ground.

   Measure the resistance across the PTO speed sensor terminals. A healthy sensor should read approximately 3,000 ohms. If it reads open or shorted, the sensor has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Sensor

   Navigate to the top rear of the transmission housing where the PTO shaft exits. Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from falling into the transmission.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical pigtail (Connector 145). Unbolt the retaining bracket or unscrew the sensor collar from the housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean transmission/hydraulic fluid. Insert it into the housing and tighten it to the specified torque in your service manual.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use the tractor's monitor display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 14005 fault code.

   Test Operation

   Engage the PTO at a low RPM to verify that the shaft speed is now registering correctly on the cab display.
