Case IH 14009 – ICU (Instrument Cluster Unit): Loss of valid ENGINE Hours
Issue description
The instrument cluster has lost its memory or synchronization of the machine's total engine operating hours.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH STX Steiger 350, 400, 450, 500, 550, and 600
Check the cause
Verify if the loss of valid engine hours is the only indication of a problem with the Instrument Cluster Unit (ICU) by checking all other gauges, displays, and indicators.
Scan for other ICU-related communication codes (such as 14010, 14011) which might indicate a broader CAN-bus communication failure or power supply issue to the cluster.
Repair steps
Assess the Scope of the Fault
If the loss of valid engine hours is the only symptom and the rest of the ICU is functioning normally, no immediate hardware repair is required to keep the tractor running.
Resume Operation
You may continue field operation. The engine hours will simply begin counting from zero (or the reset point) from this point forward.
Data Recovery
To restore the correct machine hours, the dealer must contact ASIST (CNH Industrial’s dealer technical support system). ASIST will provide the proprietary software procedure or authorization required to recover and flash the lost valid engine hours back into the ICU memory.
Hardware Replacement (If Necessary)
If the ICU exhibits other physical failures, blank screens, or persistent communication drops alongside code 14009, the cluster itself has suffered a hardware failure and must be replaced.
Parts you might need
(1)Instrument Cluster Unit (ICU) / Dash Display Cluster
Specific part numbers for the ICU are highly dependent on the exact tractor model, series, and cab configuration. Reference the specific machine's serial number in the parts catalog.
