Case IH 14011 – ICU: Communications Lost with Vehicle Data Bus 1 and ALL other controllers
Issue description
The primary CAN (Controller Area Network) bus has experienced a complete communication failure, preventing the modules on Data Bus 1 from talking to each other.

Check the cause
Perform a voltage stability check during cranking to ensure battery voltage does not drop below the threshold
Test CAN bus voltage on the Yellow and Green wires against CAN ground (should add up to approximately 5 volts)
Audit all module grounds to ensure they are secure and clean
Visually inspect the harness for chafing, moisture sources, or unsealed connectors that could short the CAN network
Check software versions to ensure the TECU and other controllers are updated to the most current software
Repair steps
Test and verify the power supply
Load-test the battery and test the alternator output. Replace the battery if it drops below 9-10 volts for an extended period during cranking.
Isolate the CAN Bus
Locate Vehicle Data Bus 1. Probe the Yellow and Green CAN wires with a multimeter to verify the 5V total reference. If the voltage is 0V or shorted to battery voltage, you have a hard wiring fault.
Inspect and repair wiring
Trace the Data Bus 1 harness. Look specifically for areas where the harness rubs against the chassis or where moisture has bypassed connector seals.
Repair the circuit
Splice and repair any damaged CAN wires using proper CAN bus wiring repair connectors and ensure the connectors are completely sealed against moisture.
Clean grounds
Remove, clean, and re-secure the main chassis grounds and the specific ground pins for the ICU.
Update and Clear
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port. Flash any pending software updates to the controllers, then clear the 14011 fault code. Cycle the key to verify the code does not return.
