Case IH 14015 – ICU (Instrumentation Control Unit), UTI (Utility Controller), or ATC (Automatic Temperature Control): Engine Intake Air Temperature data is ERROR or NOT AVAILABLE state from GOV

The control module has lost communication with the Engine Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, is receiving an invalid/out-of-range signal, or has detected that the 5-volt reference circuit supplying the sensor is shorted to a higher voltage source (like 12V battery power).

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Engine Intake Air Temperature sensor for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points that could cause a short to power.

   Disconnect the sensor pigtail and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

   With the key in the ON position (engine off), use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the 5V reference pin on the harness connector. It should read approximately 5.0V. If it reads significantly higher (e.g., 12V), there is a short to power in the wiring harness.

   Check the signal and ground wires for continuity back to the ICU/ECU. Measure the resistance of the sensor itself across its pins and compare it to the OEM specification for the current ambient temperature. An open circuit indicates an internally faulty sensor.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the Engine Intake Air Temperature sensor on the engine's intake manifold or the charge air cooler piping.

   Disconnect

   Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it free from the sensor.

   Remove the Sensor

   Using a deep socket or wrench, carefully unthread the faulty sensor from the intake piping.

   Clean the Port

   Wipe away any soot, oil, or debris from the mounting port threads.

   Install the New Sensor

   Thread the new sensor in by hand to prevent cross-threading. Tighten it to the OEM torque specification (do not overtighten, as these are often brass or plastic and can snap).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks securely.

   Restore Power & Clear Codes

   Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the key ON and use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the 14015 fault code. If an EST is not available, a standard key-cycle may move the code from 'Active' to 'Stored' once the module sees a valid temperature signal.
