Case IH 14022 – Main vehicle controller / Secondary Steering Controller: Secondary steering system should be present but system messages indicate that it is not installed
Issue description
The main vehicle controller is programmed to expect a secondary steering system on the machine. However, it is not receiving the expected CAN bus messages from the secondary steering controller. This means the module is either physically missing, not receiving power, or experiencing a CAN bus communication failure.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Steiger
- large Magnums
- 521F
- 521G
Check the cause
Verify Machine Configuration: Determine if the tractor or loader is actually equipped with a secondary steering system. If not, the software configuration may be incorrect.
Check Power and Ground: Inspect the fuses and relays that supply power to the secondary steering controller.
Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the secondary steering module wire harness for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins at the connectors.
Test CAN Bus Communication: Check the continuity of the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the secondary steering controller and the main vehicle controller.
Repair steps
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST)
Hook up the EST to the machine's diagnostic port.
Check Configuration
Navigate to the vehicle configuration settings. If the machine does not have a secondary steering system installed, change the configuration setting for the secondary steering module to "Not Installed" to clear the code.
Test Electrical Supply
If the machine is equipped with secondary steering, locate the secondary steering controller. Disconnect the harness and use a multimeter to verify it is receiving 12V power and has a solid ground. Replace any blown fuses or faulty relays.
Repair Wiring
If power or ground is missing, or if the CAN lines lack continuity, repair or replace the affected section of the secondary steering module wire harness.
Replace the Controller
If the wiring harness is intact, power and ground are present, and the configuration is correct, the secondary steering controller itself has likely failed and must be replaced.
Clear Codes
Reconnect all components, cycle the key, and use the EST to clear the fault codes and verify the repair.
