Case IH 14061 – Central Controller / Main Electrical System ECU: Air Brake Pressure Sensor - Short Circuit to VCC or Option Set but Sensor Not Connected
Issue description
The control module is seeing a high voltage signal on the sensor circuit, which typically happens when the signal wire is shorted directly to the power supply, the sensor is completely unplugged (open circuit), or the tractor's software is programmed to look for an air brake sensor on a machine that does not actually have air brakes installed.

Check the cause
Verify machine configuration: Check if the tractor is actually equipped with a pneumatic trailer brake system (most common cause on non-equipped tractors).
Visual inspection (if equipped with air brakes): Check if the air brake pressure sensor is unplugged or if the connector is loose.
Wiring harness test: Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to check the signal wire for a short to VCC (5V or 12V reference) or an open circuit.
Sensor test: If the wiring harness has proper ground, reference voltage, and continuity, the sensor itself has likely failed internally.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic scanner
Scenario A (Tractor is NOT equipped with Air Brakes): Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner (like Jaltest) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Navigate to configuration menu
Navigate to the Central Controller / Electrical System configuration menu.
Locate option
Locate the 'Air Brake Pressure' option.
Change configuration
Change the configuration from 'Configured/Present' to 'Not Configured'.
Save and clear codes
Save the configuration, cycle the key, and clear the fault codes.
Disconnect battery
Scenario B (Tractor IS equipped with Air Brakes): Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground.
Inspect wiring harness
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the air brake pressure sensor. Repair any chafed wires that may be shorting to the power supply wire.
Clean sensor connector
Clean the sensor connector with electrical contact cleaner to ensure there is no moisture or debris causing a bridge between the pins.
Remove faulty sensor
If the wiring and connector are in good condition, unthread the faulty air brake pressure sensor from the pneumatic line.
Install new sensor
Install the new OEM replacement sensor (ensure the threads are sealed according to OEM spec).
Reconnect battery and wiring
Reconnect the wiring harness and battery.
Test system
Turn the key on, clear the inactive fault codes, and test the air brake system to ensure the code does not return.
