Case IH 14061 – Instrument Cluster Unit (INST / ICU) or Armrest Controller: Air brake pressure sensor - short circuit to VCC or option set but sensor not connected
Issue description
The control module detects a high voltage short on the air brake pressure sensor circuit. Alternatively, the tractor's software has been configured to expect an air brake system, but the sensor is physically missing or disconnected.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Farmall
- Farmall series (e.g., 105U, 115U Pro EP)
- Puma series (140, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225)
- Maxxum series (e.g., 125)
- Steiger series
- MX/TG series
- Axial-Flow series (e.g., 2166, 2388)
Check the cause
Configuration Check: Verify if the machine is actually equipped with pneumatic trailer brakes. If it is not, the ECU configuration software (SWCD) may have been incorrectly programmed to expect air brakes.
If equipped, inspect the air brake pressure sensor connector and wiring harness for breaks or shorts to the 5V reference wire.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to protect the ECU.
Harness Repair
If diagnostic checks revealed a broken or chafed wire, splice and heat-shrink the damaged section of the harness.
Clean Connections
If the connector is corroded, clean it with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.
Replace Sensor
If the wiring tests good (continuity from the sensor plug back to the ECU is intact), the sensor itself has failed internally and must be replaced. Remove the old sensor and install the new OEM replacement.
Software Reconfiguration
If the tractor does not have air brakes, you must connect a diagnostic tool (like the Case IH EST or Jaltest) to the diagnostic port, navigate to the vehicle configuration menu, and disable the "Air Brake Pressure" option.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use your diagnostic scanner to clear the inactive fault codes.
