Case IH 14101 – ADIC / HA / EDC: Fuel contaminated sensor - not connected (mechanical engine only) / Water-in-Fuel (WIF) sensor circuit open
Issue description
The control module has lost communication with the sensor responsible for detecting water contamination in the fuel filter/water separator. The system is reading an open circuit, meaning the sensor is either unplugged, the wiring is broken, the sensor has failed internally, or the tractor's computer is incorrectly configured to look for a sensor that does not exist on your specific engine build.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the fuel filter/water separator assembly to see if the WIF sensor pigtail connector is physically unplugged or dangling.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the WIF sensor for chafing, rodent damage, or breaks. Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for green corrosion or moisture intrusion.
Check if the instrument cluster (ADIC panel) was recently replaced. New replacement panels are often factory-configured for electronic engines and may throw this code on a mechanical engine if searching for a non-existent sensor circuit.
Repair steps
Reconnect / Clean
If the sensor is simply unplugged, plug it back in. If the connector is dirty, clean both ends with electronic contact cleaner, apply a small amount of dielectric grease, and reconnect. Clear the code and test operation.
Sensor Replacement
Place a drain pan under the fuel filter. Open the petcock on the bottom of the filter to drain the fuel/water mixture. Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor. Unscrew the faulty WIF sensor from the bottom of the fuel filter housing. Thread the new OEM sensor into the housing (be careful not to overtighten and crack the plastic bowl). Reconnect the wiring harness and prime the fuel system to remove air.
Cluster Reconfiguration
If this code appeared immediately after installing a new dash/instrument cluster, you will need a Case IH dealer to connect their EST (Electronic Service Tool) laptop. They must reconfigure the ADIC panel software to match your tractor's exact build (mechanical engine) so it ignores the missing sensor circuit.
