Case IH 14111 – Instrument Cluster: Fuel level sensor not configured

Issue description

This is a software configuration error indicating that the control module recognizes the system architecture should have a fuel level sensor, or it detects one on the network, but the sensor has not been enabled or configured within the machine's software settings.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Configuration: Access the AFS Pro display or the instrument cluster's diagnostic menu to check if the fuel level sensor is toggled "off" or "not configured" in the software.

  2. Wiring & Voltage Checks: If configuring the sensor triggers a new fault (such as 14051 for a short to Vcc/open circuit, or 14052 for a short to ground), check the wiring from the fuel level sensor connector to the instrument controller.

  3. Turn the key to the ON position and verify there is 8 VDC power at the supply pin of the sensor connector.

  4. Check for good continuity between the ground pin and a clean chassis ground.

  5. Verify continuity between the sensor connector signal pins and the instrument cluster controller pins.

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a flat surface, apply the handbrake, and put the shuttle lever in the park position.

  2. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine).

  3. Enter the diagnostic mode.

    On newer tractors (Puma, Magnum, Optum), navigate to the diagnostics menu on the AFS Pro display via Settings > Tractor > Diagnostic Trouble Codes. On older models or Farmall series, enter the "H-menu" (or ADIC menu) by pressing and holding the diagnostic button sequence on the instrument cluster.

  4. Navigate to the Instrument Cluster configuration sub-menu.

  5. Locate the parameter for the Fuel Level Sensor and change its status from "Not Configured" to "Configured" or "Present".

  6. Save the configuration and exit the menu.

  7. Cycle the key (turn off, wait 10 seconds, turn back on) to verify that fault code 14111 has moved from "Active" to "Stored" or has cleared entirely.

  8. If the sensor is physically damaged or the wiring is shorted, configuring it will immediately trigger a hardware fault code (14051 or 14052). In that case, repair the wiring harness or replace the sensor.
