Case IH 14112 – Instrument Cluster: Transmission not configured
Issue description
A software and communication error indicating that the tractor's system does not have a transmission type selected or programmed in its configuration settings. The module knows a transmission should be there, but the specific configuration data is missing or unassigned.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Farmall series (40-45-50 models with Cab and CVT Transmission)
- Farmall 115U
- T7 Series (Tier 4B / Stage V MR)
- Tractors utilizing the MTA CCM & APH on-board diagnostics systems
Check the cause
Verify CAN Bus Communication: Ensure there is no mismatch or loss of communication between the Transmission Controller (TECU) and the Instrument Cluster.
Check Configuration Status: Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic display or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to view the current vehicle configuration and verify if the transmission field is blank or listed as 'Not Configured'.
Battery/Voltage Check: Check for underlying voltage issues (such as codes 14015 or 14016 for 5V supply issues) that may have caused the instrument cluster to lose its volatile memory or configuration settings.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port, or enter the tractor's onboard 'H-Menu' (calibration/configuration menu) via the instrument cluster.
Navigate to configuration menu
Navigate to the 'Vehicle Configuration' or 'Transmission' setup menu.
Select transmission type
Select the correct transmission type equipped on the physical tractor (e.g., CVT, PowerShift, etc.) and save the configuration.
Cycle key
Cycle the key (turn the tractor off, wait for the modules to power down, and turn it back on).
Clear fault codes
Clear the inactive fault codes from the Instrument Cluster fault stack.
Test drive
Test drive the tractor to ensure the transmission engages properly and the 14112 code does not return.
Parts you might need
(2)Instrument Cluster / Dash Display
Required only if the tractor repeatedly drops its configuration after the battery is disconnected or the key is cycled (internal memory failure).
Transmission Electronic Control Unit (TECU)
Required only if the tractor repeatedly drops its configuration after the battery is disconnected or the key is cycled (internal memory failure).
