14113 - ICU

Case IH 14113 - ICU – Instrument Cluster Unit (ICU): Transmission configuration error

Issue description

The instrument cluster detects a mismatch between the transmission type it is programmed to communicate with and the actual transmission controller broadcasting on the CAN bus, or the transmission option has been incorrectly selected in the system's software settings.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Optum Series
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Farmall Series

Check the cause

  1. Physically confirm the type of transmission installed in the tractor (e.g., CVT, Full Powershift, Semi-Powershift) to ensure you know the correct parameter to select.

  2. Check for accompanying CAN bus communication codes or memory loss codes (such as 10032 Controller Memory Error - Loss of Vehicle Configuration information). If present, the ICU may be failing to retain its programmed settings.

  3. Ensure there are no wiring faults or CAN bus communication drops between the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) and the ICU that might cause the cluster to misinterpret the transmission's presence.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) / diagnostic laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Turn ignition ON

Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).

  3. Navigate to ICU

Open the EST software and navigate to the Instrument Cluster (ICU) module.

  4. Access programming menu

Access the Configuration / Programming menu for the ICU.

  5. Locate parameter

Locate the 'Transmission Type' or 'Transmission Options' parameter.

  6. Change configuration

Change the configuration setting to match the exact transmission physically installed in the tractor.

  7. Save configuration

Save the configuration and exit the programming menu.

  8. Cycle power

Cycle the tractor's key power (turn off, wait 10-15 seconds, turn back on) to allow the modules to initialize with the new settings.

  9. Clear fault code

Use the EST to clear the inactive 14113 fault code from the ICU memory.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Instrument Cluster Unit (ICU) / Dash Display

Only required if the configuration repeatedly drops or the module fails to hold memory.
