14118

Case IH 14118 – Vehicle Electronic Control Unit (VECU) or Advanced Display Instrument Cluster (ADIC) / Cab Controller: ABS present but not configured

Issue description

This is a configuration mismatch error. The tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus) is actively detecting an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module or receiving ABS-related CAN messages, but the vehicle's central configuration file does not have the ABS option enabled.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Puma
  • Optum
  • Magnum
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Physically inspect the tractor's axles and brake lines to determine if it is actually equipped with an ABS module and wheel speed sensors.

  2. If the tractor does not have ABS, check the CAN bus network for a module that is incorrectly broadcasting ABS data. This can happen if a module (like a TECU or brake controller) was recently replaced with an incorrectly programmed unit.

  3. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to review the tractor's current configuration file to see if the ABS option was accidentally disabled, or if the VECU suffered a memory corruption/voltage drop that reset its configuration.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Turn ignition ON

Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).

  3. Read configuration and codes

Open the EST software and read the current vehicle configuration and active fault codes.

  4. Configure ABS (if equipped)

If the tractor IS equipped with ABS: Navigate to the vehicle configuration menu. Locate the ABS option and change its status to "Installed" or "Enabled". Save and write the updated configuration to the VECU/Cluster.

  5. Reconfigure offending module (if not equipped)

If the tractor IS NOT equipped with ABS: Identify which module on the CAN bus is erroneously broadcasting ABS signals. Reflash or reconfigure the offending module so it matches the tractor's actual build data.

  6. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes using the EST.

  7. Verify repair

Cycle the ignition key (turn off, wait 30 seconds, turn back on) to verify that fault code 14118 does not return.
