14121

Case IH 14121 – CCM (Central Control Module) or ADIC (Advanced Display Instrument Cluster): TECU present but not configured

Issue description

This fault indicates a configuration mismatch on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus). The central controller is receiving communication from the Tractor Electronic Control Unit (TECU), but the tractor's software configuration is set to indicate that a TECU is not installed on this specific machine.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Farmall Series (40, 45, 50, and C Series)
  • Case IH Puma
  • Case IH Optum
  • Case IH Maxxum series (Tier 4B / Stage V)

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the tractor was factory-equipped with ISOBUS/TECU capabilities to rule out a wrong module or CAN bus wiring short.

  2. Check recent service history for software updates, module replacements (like ADIC or CCM), or battery voltage drops that could cause the central controller to lose its volatile configuration memory.

  3. Check for associated 'present but not configured' codes (e.g., 14120, 14115) which indicate the entire CCM configuration has likely been wiped or reset to default.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the tractor's 9-pin diagnostic port.

  2. Access Configuration Menu

Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off). Open the EST software and navigate to the CCM (Central Control Module) or Cluster (ADIC) configuration screen. (Note: On some models, this can also be accessed via the tractor's H-Menu on the dash display by entering the dealer access code).

  3. Update Installed Options

Scroll through the list of installed options/modules. Locate the setting for the TECU (or ISOBUS Controller).

  4. Change Status

Change the parameter from 'Not Installed' / 'Not Optioned' to 'Installed' or 'Configured'.

  5. Save and Reboot

Save the configuration to the controller. Turn the ignition key OFF, wait for the main power relay to click off (usually 30-60 seconds) to allow the modules to power down completely.

  6. Clear Codes

Turn the key back ON, reconnect the EST, and clear the inactive fault codes. Verify that code 14121 does not return.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Tractor Electronic Control Unit (TECU) / ISOBUS Processor

    710059014

TECU modules are highly specific to the tractor's transmission (CVT vs. Powershift) and ISOBUS class. Always verify the exact part number against the machine's PIN.

  • Diagnostic/Install Kit, TECU for ISOBUS

    88.055.12

    Fits Puma series
