Case IH 14304 – Electronic Park Lock (EPL) controller / XA module: Electronic Park Lock (EPL) - status not validated

The control module cannot verify the current physical position of the electronic park lock actuator. The system does not know whether the parking brake is fully engaged or fully disengaged, which triggers a safety fault and can prevent the tractor from moving.

   Use the tractor's instrument cluster switches or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to enter the diagnostic 'H' menu. Navigate to the XA module, menu H2, to view stored calibration values for the EPL and see if the sensor is reading out of range.

   Turn the key switch on, press both brake pedals down, move the Forward/Neutral/Reverse (FNR) shuttle lever, and press the neutral button. Listen closely to the transmission housing to hear if the electric motor for the park brake is attempting to move.

   Check the wiring harness leading to the EPL actuator on the transmission. Look for rubbed wires, corrosion in the connector, or a short to ground/Vcc.

   Ensure the FNR lever switches are functioning properly and not sending conflicting signals to the XA module.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on flat, level ground and manually chock the wheels to prevent a roll-away.

   Access the Actuator

   Locate the Electronic Park Lock actuator assembly mounted on the transmission housing.

   Electrical Testing

   Disconnect the actuator harness. Use a multimeter to verify that the actuator is receiving proper voltage and ground from the XA controller. If voltage is present but the actuator does not respond or report its position, the actuator assembly has failed internally.

   Replace the Actuator

   Unbolt and remove the faulty EPL actuator. Install the new OEM actuator assembly and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Perform EPL Calibration

   Enter the diagnostic mode via the instrument cluster or EST. Navigate to the XA module, then select menu H1 (Calibration procedures). Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle the park lock and save the new calibration values.

   Temporary Workaround (If needed)

   If the tractor is stranded in the field, a technician with the CNH EST laptop can temporarily disable the EPL in the tractor's configurations. If disabled, the operator must rely entirely on the manual handbrake until the actuator is replaced.
