Case IH 14304 - ICU – XA: Electronic Park Lock Status Not Validated

Fault code 14304 indicates that the control system cannot verify the current state, position, or initialization of the Electronic Park Lock (EPL) mechanism. This typically happens when there is a loss of calibration, an actuator initialization failure, or a communication mismatch on the CAN bus regarding the park lock's position.

   Secure the machine on level ground and use service brakes or wheel chocks to prevent movement.

   Connect diagnostic tool (part 380000843) and turn key ON to access the HH MENU on the instrument cluster.

   Navigate to the XA (Electronic Park Lock) controller using the instrument cluster switches.

   Go to menu H2 to view stored EPL calibration values and menu H3 to verify configurations and CAN bus recognition.

   Inspect the EPL actuator wiring harness for physical damage, open circuits, or shorts to ground/Vcc.

   Verify the shuttle park switch line and handbrake switch line inputs for faults.

   Repair wiring harness

   If diagnostic checks reveal a short or open circuit in the wiring between the EPL actuator and the XA controller, repair the damaged wiring or connector pins.

   Replace EPL actuator

   If the wiring is intact but the actuator fails to initialize or report its status, replace the Electronic Park Lock actuator/module.

   Recalibrate EPL actuator

   Enter the HH MENU on the instrument cluster, navigate to the XA module, select menu H1 (Calibration procedures), and follow on-screen prompts to initialize and calibrate. This is required whether the actuator was replaced or just lost memory.

   Clear codes and test

   Exit the diagnostic menu, clear the fault codes, and test the park lock by engaging and releasing the shuttle control lever to ensure it holds and releases the transmission properly.

   Apply temporary workaround

   If stranded in the field, use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to temporarily change the tractor's configuration to disable the EPL, forcing manual handbrake use until repaired.
