Case IH 146 – Engine Controller (ENG): Coolant Temperature level has exceeded the warning limit

The engine is actively overheating or the sensor is sending an out-of-range high-temperature signal to the system.

   Check the engine coolant reservoir and radiator levels for low coolant.

   Inspect the radiator and cooling fins for blockages from crop residue, dust, or dirt.

   Confirm that the cooling fan is engaging and operating correctly.

   Inspect the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and its wiring harness for corroded connectors, damaged wires, or calibration drift.

   Prep the Machine

   Turn off the engine and allow it to cool completely to avoid severe burns from pressurized hot coolant.

   Drain Coolant

   Drain the engine coolant until the fluid level is below the sensor port to prevent spilling.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Use a wrench to unthread and remove the old sensor from the engine block/coolant port.

   Prepare the New Sensor

   Clean the port threads on the engine thoroughly. Apply a high-quality thread sealant to the threads of the new sensor to prevent leaks.

   Install

   Thread the new sensor into the port and tighten it securely. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Refill and Test

   Refill the cooling system with OEM-approved coolant to the proper level. Start the tractor, let it reach operating temperature, and verify that the dash gauge reads correctly and the fault code clears.
