Case IH 148 – TMF (Tractor Multi-Function) Controller, Armrest Controller, or AUX (Auxiliary Remote) Controller: Implement feedback #1 out of range Low
Issue description
The feedback voltage returning from the implement position sensor (the potentiometer that monitors the angle/position of the 3-point hitch or remote valve) has dropped below the controller's minimum acceptable threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to ground in the sensor's signal wire, an open circuit in the sensor supply or signal circuit, or a completely failed internal track within the potentiometer.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear 3-point hitch rockshaft or remote valve block for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or heavy corrosion inside the sensor connector.
Disconnect the sensor, turn the key ON, and measure the supply voltage at the connector from the controller (should be a steady 5V or 8V reference).
Test the signal wire from the sensor connector back to the TMF/Armrest controller for continuity and ensure it is not shorted to the chassis ground.
Test the potentiometer itself using a multimeter set to Ohms by manually moving the sensor linkage; the resistance should sweep smoothly without dropping to zero or infinity.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to protect the controllers.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the implement feedback #1 position sensor. It is typically mounted on the rear rockshaft (for the 3-point hitch) or directly on the auxiliary remote valve assembly.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical plug. Unbolt the sensor housing and carefully disconnect it from the mechanical linkage or pivot pin.
Installation
Install the new potentiometer. Ensure the mechanical linkage is properly aligned so the sensor is not physically over-extended during operation. Secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnection
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery ground cable.
Calibration
Because the new sensor will have slightly different minimum and maximum voltage limits than the old one, you must perform the hitch/implement calibration procedure. Access the calibration menu via the cab display or a diagnostic service tool. The controller will command the hitch/valve through its full range of motion to learn the new voltage limits.
Clear Codes
Clear the inactive fault code 148 from the TMF/Armrest controller memory and test the implement for proper operation.
