Case IH 14906 – Instrument Cluster (ADIC / Enhanced ICU3) or Universal Controller (U1): Fast Steer Controller (KA) missing
Issue description
This code indicates a communication failure on the tractor's CAN bus network. Specifically, the main vehicle network is unable to detect or communicate with the "KA" module, which is the identifier for the Steering Controller / Fast Steer Controller.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Maxxum
- Case IH Puma series
- Case IH Magnum series
- Case IH Steiger series
Check the cause
Check the fuses supplying power to the steering system to verify the KA Steering Controller is receiving proper voltage and has a clean ground connection.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the KA Steering Controller for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or chafed wires.
Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines for continuity and proper terminating resistance (typically 60 ohms across the network).
Verify the ADIC (Advanced Digital Instrument Cluster) configuration. If the tractor does not have a Fast Steer Controller but is programmed to look for one, it will throw this code (often with code 14920).
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during module replacement.
Locate the Module
Locate the KA Steering Controller (refer to your specific model's service manual for the exact cab/chassis location).
Remove the Controller
Unplug the main harness connector from the controller and unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.
Install the New Controller
Mount the replacement KA Steering Controller and securely reconnect the wiring harness.
Restore Power
Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Access the tractor's 'H' menu (Calibration Menu) via the instrument cluster. Navigate to the H8 menu (Clear stored calibration) to reset all EEPROM values and erase stored error codes for the steering controller. Perform the steering system calibration (often found under menu D.20.C or similar) to calibrate the steering angle sensor, split valves, and LVDT sensors to the new controller.
Parts you might need
(1)Fast Steer Controller / Steering Controller (Module KA)
Exact CNH part numbers vary heavily depending on the specific tractor family and equipment. Ensure the replacement module matches your tractor's specific steering valve setup. A dealer may need to flash the latest firmware to the new controller using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
