Case IH 14909 – ADIC / ICU: SWCD missing (VA) / SWCD absent (VA)
Issue description
The main instrument cluster has lost CAN bus communication with the SWCD monitor, or the cluster is configured to expect the display, but it is not physically detected on the network.

Check the cause
Verify if the SWCD display is actually installed in the cab (it may have been removed but the ADIC is still programmed to look for it)
Check the fuses supplying power to the display and the ISOBUS system
Test the SWCD harness connector for proper 12V power and ground
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the SWCD and the rear ISOBUS breakaway connector for chafing, rodent damage, or loose connections
Check the pins on the back of the monitor for corrosion or bending
Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines at the SWCD connector for continuity back to the ADIC and verify proper termination resistance (approximately 60 ohms across the bus with the battery disconnected)
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the CAN bus modules.
Wiring Repair
If you found broken wires or corroded pins during the diagnostic phase, repair the harness or replace the damaged connector pigtail.
Module Replacement
If power, ground, and CAN lines are fully intact but the SWCD remains unresponsive and the code persists, the SWCD monitor itself has failed internally and must be replaced.
Reconfiguration
If the tractor is not supposed to have an SWCD, you must access the ADIC configuration menu (often via the 'HH menu' on the cluster or using the dealer electronic service tool) to update the controller list and remove the 'VA' module from the cluster's expected inventory.
Clear Codes
Once the repair or reconfiguration is complete, clear the stored fault codes (on some models, this is done by navigating to the H8 or HC menu on the cluster to erase stored EEPROM error codes). Cycle the key to ensure the 14909 code does not return.
