14910 - ICU

Case IH 14910 - ICU – ICU: Climate controller missing / Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module missing

Issue description

CAN bus communication failure. The instrument cluster has not received a SwcdAddrClaim message containing the correct 8-byte name field from the TA (Temperature/Climate) controller. The system logs this fault because the machine's EEPROM configuration indicates that an ATC module should be present on the network, but the module is failing to communicate.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Puma series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Magnum series (MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285, 220, 260, 290, 310, 340)
  • Steiger
  • Quadtrac
  • Axial-Flow series (2588, 5088, 6088, 7088, 7120, 7130, 8010, 8120, 8230, 9010, 9240)

Check the cause

  1. Verify Machine Configuration: Confirm that the machine is actually equipped with Automatic Temperature Control. If the tractor has manual AC but the ICU was recently replaced or reprogrammed, the EEPROM configuration may be incorrect.

  2. Check Power and Ground: Locate the ATC module (typically in the cab console or roof HVAC assembly) and test its dedicated fuses and relays to ensure it is receiving proper operating voltage and has a clean ground.

  3. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Inspect the wiring harness connectors at both the ATC module and the ICU/ADIC for backed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.

  4. Test the CAN Bus Network: Using a multimeter, check the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the ATC module and the ICU for continuity. Verify there are no shorts to ground or shorts to voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the machine's battery power before servicing electrical components to prevent short circuits.

  2. Access ATC module

Access the ATC module by removing the necessary cab trim panels or roof console covers (location varies by cab style).

  3. Disconnect wiring

Disconnect the wiring harness from the ATC module.

  4. Repair wiring

If diagnostic testing revealed damaged wiring or corroded connector pins, repair the harness or replace the pigtail connector.

  5. Remove faulty module

If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN lines all test good, the ATC module itself has failed internally. Remove the mounting screws and extract the faulty module.

  6. Install replacement module

Install the replacement ATC module and secure it with the mounting hardware.

  7. Reconnect wiring

Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector seats fully and locks.

  8. Reassemble panels

    Reassemble the cab trim panels.

  9. Reconnect battery

Reconnect battery power and turn the ignition key to the ON position.

  10. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes using the instrument cluster diagnostic menu or a dealer electronic service tool (EST).

  11. Test HVAC system

Test the HVAC system to ensure the blower, temperature blend, and A/C compressor operate correctly and that code 14910 does not return. (Note: Depending on the machine, a dealer EST may be required to configure the new module to the CAN network).
