14911 - ICU

Case IH 14911 - ICU – ADIC / ICU: Enhanced cluster detected without keypad

Issue description

The system is configured for or expects an "Enhanced" instrument cluster which requires an external keypad to navigate menus and settings, but the controller is not detecting communication with that keypad.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Steiger series
  • Case IH Puma series
  • Case IH Maxxum series
  • Case IH Farmall series

Check the cause

  1. Verify equipment configuration: Determine if the tractor was originally equipped with an 'Enhanced' cluster (separate keypad) or a 'Basic' cluster (integrated buttons). If basic, this is a configuration error.

  2. Inspect physical connections: Check the wiring harness and connectors between the keypad and the ADIC for loose connections, backed-out pins, or corrosion.

  3. Check for CAN bus and power issues: Ensure the keypad is receiving power and ground, and that the CAN communication lines between the keypad and the ADIC are intact.

  4. Review the 'H Menu': At key ON, access the 'H Menu' on the dot matrix display to see which modules the ADIC is currently recognizing on the CAN bus.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn the key off and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during inspection.

  2. Access the Components

Remove the trim panels surrounding the instrument cluster and the side/armrest keypad (depending on the model's layout).

  3. Harness Inspection

Disconnect the wiring harness at the keypad and at the ADIC. Inspect the pins for damage or moisture. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease if necessary.

  4. Re-seat Connections

Firmly reconnect the harnesses, ensuring the locking tabs click into place.

  5. Reconfigure the ADIC (If Applicable)

If the tractor does not physically have a keypad (Basic cluster), a dealer electronic service tool (EST) or the onboard diagnostic menu must be used to change the ADIC configuration from "Enhanced" to "Basic cluster with keypad" (which corresponds to code 14912 if configured correctly).

  6. Replace Faulty Hardware

If the configuration is correct and the wiring is intact but the code persists, the keypad itself has likely failed internally and must be replaced. If a new keypad does not resolve the issue, the ADIC may have a faulty communication transceiver and will require replacement.
