14912 - ICU

Case IH 14912 - ICU – ADIC / ICU: Basic cluster with keypad

Issue description

A hardware configuration or mismatch code indicating that the system's CAN is detecting a basic-level instrument cluster equipped with a keypad. This typically means there is a configuration mismatch (e.g., software expects an 'Enhanced' cluster but detects a 'Basic' one) or a communication error causing the module to report its hardware ID incorrectly.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma Series (e.g., 130, 145, 160, 170, 185, 200, 215, 230 CVT/CVX)
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Farmall Series (e.g., 55C, 65C, 75C, 105U, 115U)
  • Case IH MXM and MX/TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Physically inspect the tractor's dashboard to verify whether a 'Basic' or 'Enhanced' cluster is actually installed, and ensure the keypad is present.

  2. Check for related companion codes (e.g., 14905 Keypad Missing, 14911 Enhanced Cluster Without Keypad, 14920 Configuration Error) that might isolate the issue.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the keypad and the ADIC/ICU for loose pins, corrosion, or damaged wires that could cause a drop in CAN communication.

  4. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and verify that the hardware ID programmed in the EEPROM matches the physical cluster installed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the cluster.

  2. Access the ADIC/ICU

Remove the steering column covers or dashboard trim panels surrounding the instrument cluster and the keypad.

  3. Reseat Connections

Disconnect the main harness to the instrument cluster and the secondary harness to the keypad. Clean the contacts with an approved electronic contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and firmly reseat the connectors.

  4. Reconfigure the Module

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position. If the dot matrix display shows the 'HH MENU', use the EST laptop to navigate to the controller configuration screen.

  5. Reprogram Hardware ID

If the hardware is correct but the code persists, use the EST to re-flash or reconfigure the ADIC so that the software recognizes and accepts the 'Basic cluster with keypad' configuration.

  6. Replace Faulty Hardware

If the cluster or keypad has an internal failure and cannot be recognized by the CAN bus, replace the faulty component.

  7. Final Calibration

After installing a new cluster or keypad, you must use the EST to program the new hardware ID into the tractor's network so it can communicate with the Engine and Transmission controllers.
