Case IH 14921 – Advanced Steering Controller: HW ID not programmed
Issue description
The Hardware Identification (HW ID) or the configuration dataset for the steering system is missing, corrupted, or has not been programmed into the controller's memory.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Case IH Farmall 40, 45, and 50 Tractors
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
- Case IH Vestrum CVX Series Tractors
- Case IH Steiger and Quadtrac AFS Connect Series
Check the cause
Verify recent service history to see if the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) was recently replaced or if a software flash/update was attempted and interrupted.
Check battery and system voltage to ensure it is stable. Related codes (like 15200 for voltage too high or 15201 for voltage too low) can cause the controller to drop its memory or fail to initialize.
Check for accompanying codes, such as code 14922 (Wrong Steering Sensor Configuration), which often accompanies a blank or incorrectly programmed steering controller.
Perform a communication test by connecting the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify that the Steering Valve Controller is communicating on the CAN bus.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Turn ignition ON
Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).
Navigate to module
Navigate to the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) module in the EST software.
Upload HW ID and dataset
Select the programming/configuration menu and upload the correct Hardware ID and Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset specific to the tractor's exact model and PIN (Product Identification Number).
Perform configuration and calibration
Once the HW ID is successfully programmed, perform the steering sensor configuration and steering valve calibration procedures as outlined in the EST prompts.
Cycle key
Cycle the key off for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
Clear fault codes
Clear the fault codes.
Replace module
If the EST cannot write the HW ID to the controller, or if the code immediately returns after a successful flash, the Steering Valve Controller has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be physically replaced, followed by repeating steps 1-7.
Parts you might need
(3)Steering Valve Controller (SVC) / Advanced Steering Controller
Source exact hardware part number using the tractor's PIN. If replacing the physical valve controller block, ensure the hydraulic lines are capped immediately to prevent contamination of the steering circuit.
OEM Software
51631896SVC Software Version 2.02. Software must be flashed by an authorized dealer using the EST.
OEM Dataset
51573865Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset. Datasets must be flashed by an authorized dealer using the EST.
