15001

Case IH 15001 – Fast Steer Controller (KA Module): Exceeding safe operating wheel speed (10 km/h) with system still enabled or still active.

Issue description

This code is tied to the tractor's Fast Steer (or Custom Steer) system, which is electronically restricted to speeds under 10 km/h. If the tractor exceeds this speed while the system is engaged, the system automatically suspends the feature and the Fast Steer indicator lamp on the dash will flash.

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum
  • Puma 145
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 180
  • Puma 195
  • Puma 210
  • Puma 220
  • Puma 240
  • Maxxum 150
  • MXU115
  • MXU135
  • Magnum
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Verify with the operator if the warning light flashes only when accelerating for transport (indicates operator error rather than a mechanical fault)

  2. Monitor live ground/wheel speed via the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool to check for erratic or falsely high speed sensor readings

  3. Check if the Fast Steer system has lost its calibration (look for related U-codes or code 15024)

Repair steps

  1. Educate the Operator

If the live speed readings are accurate, instruct the operator to manually disengage the Fast Steer system before exceeding 10 km/h to prevent the system from logging the override code.

  2. Inspect Speed Sensor Wiring

If the tractor's speed readout is erratic, locate the wheel speed sensor or radar ground speed sensor. Inspect the wiring harness for chafing, corrosion, or loose connector pins. Repair any damaged wiring.

  3. Replace the Speed Sensor

If the wiring is intact but the speed signal remains erratic or falsely high, replace the speed sensor.

  4. Calibrate the Fast Steer System

If the sensors are reading correctly but the system is malfunctioning, perform a Fast Steer calibration. Enter the tractor's 'H' menu on the instrument cluster, navigate to the 'H1' menu, select the Fast Steer symbol on the KA controller, use the cluster buttons to toggle the sensor settings, and follow the on-screen prompts to zero the system.

  5. Replace the KA Controller

If the Fast Steer Control Module fails to communicate, will not accept calibration, or continuously flashes the warning lamp despite accurate speed inputs, the module itself has failed and must be replaced.
