Case IH 15006 – Steering Controller: Split valve Linear Variable Displacement Transducer (LVDT) - open circuit.
Issue description
The control module has lost the electrical signal from the Split Valve LVDT. An open circuit means the electrical path is broken, which is typically caused by a severed wire, an unplugged connector, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

Check the cause
Locate the Fast Steer hydraulic valve block (near the steering orbital valve) and inspect the wiring harness leading to the Split Valve LVDT for chafing, rodent damage, or severed wires.
Disconnect the LVDT sensor plug and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress inside the connector.
Using a multimeter, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the LVDT connector back to the Steering Controller (KA) pins. Verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V reference and ground.
Measure the resistance across the LVDT sensor pins. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (out of limits/infinite resistance), the sensor has failed internally.
Repair steps
Prepare machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits.
Clean area
Clean the area around the Fast Steer split valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Repair wiring
If wiring is faulty: Splice and repair the broken wire using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors, or replace the damaged pigtail connector.
Remove faulty sensor
If the sensor is faulty: Disconnect the LVDT electrical connector. Remove the retaining fasteners holding the LVDT to the split valve body and carefully extract the sensor.
Install new sensor
Install the new LVDT sensor, ensuring any O-rings or seals are properly seated, and tighten to OEM torque specifications.
Reconnect components
Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the battery.
Clear fault code
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or use the tractor's onboard diagnostic display to clear the 15006 fault code.
Calibrate system
Because a steering position sensor was replaced, you must run the Fast Steer / Steering Angle calibration procedure via the EST or the tractor's H1 calibration menu to ensure the controller learns the new sensor's base voltage values.
