Case IH 15008 – Steering Controller: Change valve solenoid - open circuit
Issue description
The steering controller has detected an incomplete electrical path (open circuit) in the circuit for the Change Valve Solenoid (Fast Steer Change Valve Solenoid). This means electrical current cannot flow through the circuit, which is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a severed wire in the harness, or a burnt-out (internally open) solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the Change Valve Solenoid on the steering hydraulic valve block, wiring harness, and connector (e.g., X627) for unplugged connections, pulled wires, or severe corrosion.
Perform a harness continuity test on the Hydraulic Valve High Side Driver and Low Side Driver wires between the solenoid and steering controller to check for breaks or chafing.
Measure the resistance across the pins of the change valve solenoid coil using a multimeter to check for an internally open coil (infinite resistance or 'OL').
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and allow the hydraulic pressure to dissipate.
Access the Valve Block
Locate the steering control valve assembly (often located under the cab or near the steering orbital motor, depending on the model).
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector (e.g., X627) from the Change Valve Solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid
Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the faulty coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the cartridge itself is leaking or damaged, the hydraulic system will need to be drained/capped to replace the entire cartridge).
Install the New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic casing of the coil.
Reconnect and Clear Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn the key to the ON position and use the tractor's diagnostic display (the 'H' Menu on the instrument cluster) to clear the inactive fault codes.
Recalibrate (If Necessary)
Test the steering system. If the steering controller lost its calibration parameters during the fault, it may throw a secondary code (15024 - System not calibrated), requiring you to perform the steering angle sensor and valve calibration procedure.
