Case IH 15009 – Electronic System / Distribution Systems: Change valve solenoid - short circuit across

The controller has detected a short circuit in the Fast Steer Change Valve Solenoid circuit. This can be caused by the internal coil of the solenoid failing and shorting out, or the two wires leading to the solenoid rubbing together and creating a short circuit in the wiring harness.

   Inspect connector X627 at the Change Valve Solenoid for water ingress, melted plastic, or corroded pins.

   Test the wiring harness for a short circuit by checking for continuity between Pin 1 (Red wire RD 3173) and Pin 2 (Green wire GN 3174) while disconnected from the solenoid.

   Measure the resistance across the two pins on the solenoid coil. A reading of 0 ohms or significantly below the OEM spec (typically 7-14 ohms) confirms an internal short.

   Safety First

   Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, relieve hydraulic pressure by turning the steering wheel back and forth, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Component

   Locate the Fast Steer hydraulic valve block (typically found under the cab or near the steering orbital valve). Identify the Change Valve Solenoid (associated with connector X627).

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the X627 connector from the solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Carefully slide the faulty solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the valve cartridge to replace just the coil).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new Change Valve Solenoid onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic casing.

   Reconnect

   Plug the X627 connector back into the new solenoid.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Clear the inactive 15009 fault code.

   Important Note

   If the steering system was heavily disturbed, you may trigger code 15024 ("System not calibrated"). If this occurs, you will need to perform a steering angle sensor and Fast Steer calibration via the tractor's display monitor.
