Case IH 15013 – Electronic System / Steering Controller: Change valve or split valve spools - stuck closed

The LVDT position sensor is reporting that the change valve or the split valve spool is physically stuck in the closed position and is not shifting as commanded by the controller.

   Check Hydraulic Oil Temperature: Verify if code 15015 (Cold oil, temperature below 5°C) is also active. If so, warm the tractor up to operating temperature and retest.

   Inspect the LVDT Sensor & Wiring: Check for active codes 15006 (LVDT open circuit) or 15007 (LVDT short circuit). Inspect the sensor's wiring harness for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Test the Change Valve Solenoid: Check for codes 15008 (Solenoid open circuit) or 15009 (Solenoid short circuit). Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to ensure it is receiving voltage and hasn't failed internally.

   Check for System Calibration: Ensure code 15024 (System not calibrated) is not active, which can cause erratic steering valve behavior.

   Relieve Hydraulic Pressure

   Park the machine on a flat surface, turn off the engine, and cycle the steering and hydraulic remotes to relieve residual system pressure.

   Locate the Split Valve Assembly

   Access the steering hydraulic distribution block (refer to your specific model's hydraulic schematic).

   Remove the Solenoid and LVDT

   Carefully disconnect the wiring harnesses. Remove the change valve solenoid and the LVDT position sensor from the valve body.

   Extract the Valve Spool

   Carefully remove the change valve/split valve spool from the valve body.

   Inspect and Clean

   Inspect the spool and the internal valve bore for scoring, metal shavings, or debris. Clean the spool and bore thoroughly with hydraulic parts cleaner.

   Reassemble or Replace

   If the spool or bore is heavily scored, the valve assembly must be replaced. If it was merely jammed by debris, lubricate the spool with clean hydraulic fluid (e.g., Case IH Hy-Tran) and reinstall. It should move freely in the bore.

   Recalibrate the System

   After reassembly, you must perform a steering angle sensor and Fast Steer system calibration using the tractor's display monitor or a dealer diagnostic tool. Failure to calibrate will trigger code 15024.
